Due to the Christmas day attempted bombing on the plane from Amsterdam to Detroit, many airports worldwide are reportedly installing controversial body scanners...the UK, Canada, Amsterdam, etc. This is not breaking news, but what hasn't been in the news that much is a study that shows more people support shedding their shyness for more security.
I found a great article explaining how the body scanners work for a general background: www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/12/31/travel/main6041280.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody
With all the security concerns in the past few weeks, it may be hard to wrap your mind around taking a trip,...but soon this will blow over and the die hards will still be flying. So - I want to add to my last post of "New Hotels to Watch in 2010." (www.typepad.com/whatatrip/2010/01/new-hotels-to-watch-in-2010-1.html Some amazing places!)
I found this great new boutique hotel in New York, Ink48 -a Kimpton property. I love it's sleek design, and affordability. I found hotel rooms starting at $157. AAA members get an additional 10 off the best rate. (BTW - the NY Times reports that hotel prices are down in NY - a good reason to go to this notoriously expensive town in which to sleep.)

The interesting thing about Ink48 is it's location - Hell's Kitchen on 11th Ave and 48th St. I used to live right there many years ago, and it was pretty seedy. The hotel is a sign of how much the area has gentrified. Staying here one can jog to Central Park South...visit theaters, and the Natural History Museum.
Also - the January issue of Travel and Leisure lists its top 500 hotels in the world based on a survey amongst it's readers. Three new hotels made the list:
--Grand Del Mar - San Diego, CA
--Setai in Miami Beach, FL
--Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, Maine.
Check 'em out!
